District Nurse

District Nurses visit housebound patients who require general nursing services. They also arrange evening nursing services and the supply of medical equipment. You can contact them on (0191) 5025763 there is an answering service available please leave your name and telephone number and a District Nurse will call you back.

Diabetic Clinic

Appointments will be sent out but please contact the practice if you have any concerns about diabetes or your care.

If you cannot attend the appointment we send you please contact the surgery, and another appointment can be arranged for you.

Child Health Clinic

All new mums and babies are invited for a check-up between six and eight weeks the doctor will carry out a post natal check on the mum and developmental check on the baby. The clinic is usually held on a Wednesday 1pm-3pm. To contact a health visitor telephone (0191) 5025700 they are based at Houghton Health Center.

Cervical Smears

It is recommended that woman have routine cervical smears every three years from the age of 25 until the age of 65, and then every five years provided the smear is normal. You will be notified by the North East Primary Care Services Agency when your smear is due. Please telephone and make an appointment. Routine smears are usually taken by the Practice Nurse or occasionally by a Doctor if necessary.

You will be informed by the North East Primary Care  Services Agency of  your result by post. This usually takes between four and eight weeks. If you have any queries about your result please telephone the surgery and speak to the Practice Nurse.

Blood Pressure Clinics

Patients who need their blood pressure monitoring can book an appointment with our health care assistant or phlebotomist.

Asthma/COPD

All asthma and COPD sufferers should book an appointment at least once a year for advice and support from our practice nurse Wendy Blackshaw.

Ante-Natal Care

This clinic is provided by the community midwives. If you become pregnant, you will be asked to attend on a Monday for a booking in appointment. You will then be seen regularly throughout your pregnancy on a Tuesday for a review appointment at the practice or another location agreed with your midwife.

Anti-Coagulant Clinic

The Anti-Coagulant clinic is held for patients who take Warfrin. This clinic is held by a pharmacist contracted by the Primary Care Trust and is held at the practice usually on a Thursday, home visits can also be arranged for patients who are housebound.

Social Precribing

The Social Prescribing Link Worker Team work on behalf of all GP Practices in Sunderland to provide non‐medical support and interventions. We can support with:

  • Housing worries
  • Money worries
  • Being more physically active
  • Connecting with others
  • Mental & physical wellbeing
  • Managing long term conditions
  • Weight management
  • Preventing future ill health
  • Finding local support groups specific to a health condition or personalised goal
